Whitehall hosts Protected Food Producers
Thursday 24th March saw the Annual General Meeting of the UK Protected Food Names Association, which was hosted by the Department of Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) in Whitehall.
The Grimsby Traditional Fish Smokers Group were represented by David Atkinson of Atkinsons Smoked Fish who met with producers from across the UK to look at ways to promote Britain’s protected foods.
These included looking at ways in which producers can engage consumers to raise the profile of protected foods across the country including the creation of a national website by Blue Spire Design who already work with the GTFS Group and other seafood producers.
Britain’s regional food heritage has a strong and varied tradition with many interesting and different foods. With international recognition Britain’s protected foods represent the finest collection of this tradition and provide a leading light in the celebration of the nations regional produce.
The growing interest in regional food highlighted by celebrity chefs and food writers provides a great opportunity for protected food producers to promote the wonderful and varied tradition of products available to consumers.
