GTFS Group sponsors UK Young Seafood Chef of the Year


The Grimsby Traditional Fish Smokers Group is proud to sponsor this event which will be judged by celebrity chef Mitch Tonks, winner of the Great British Menu and Michelin starred Kenny Atkinson and one of France’s best chefs Franck Pontais. The competition will see top young chefs prepare a meal using the UK’s most prestigious delicacy -Grimsby Traditional Smoked Haddock!

The Seafood Competition was founded in 1996 by the Grimsby Institute of Further & Higher Education’s Hospitality Department. The tutors and industry specialists who worked in the department training young chefs recognised that on the national competition circuit there was no existing seafood specific competitions, aimed at colleges and showcasing the skills of their students.

Although the competition has seen many fantastic prizes to be won, the real achievement is for the competing chefs to push themselves to be the best they can be ready to show the seafood industry new inventive ways in which to use sustainable seafood pushing the boundaries of the culinary imagination.
